truss rod - which models or all models?
« on: June 18, 2007, 10:26:16 AM »
Hello,
Please forgive the very newbie-ish question.  I'm a new guitarist and new to the forum as well.  I'm going to be buying a new guitar soon and am really liking the Washburns under 500 buying spot!  However, I'm unclear as to what models have a truss rod and which don't.  If it isn't mentioned in the advertising am I to assume that a guitar doesn't have one?  Isn't a truss rod an essential component to any good guitar?  I'd appreciate any education you vets might offer.  Thanks in advance for the help.

Hey se, welcome aboard!  Yes a truss rod is essential, and even if it is not mentioned you can assume that any 'standard consumer' guitar has one.
A really commendable site for learning the technical bits is frets.com. In your case you could start with
http://frets.com/FRETSPages/Luthier/Data/TrussRods/trussrods1.html
and then consult these two as much as you possible can:
http://frets.com/FRETSPages/General/Glossary/glossary.html
http://frets.com/FRETSPages/OwnerManual/manssguitar.html
(And lastly for a good laugh you can look at this recent thread which at least revolved around truss tods!!: http://www.washburn.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=9707 [:)] )

I didnt mean for it to look so penis-esque. hahaha. welcome to the forum SE. Im fairly confident that all of the steel string washburns have a truss rod. As for the classicals, Im not so sure.
