Title: Factory Tour
Post by: WB-Nick on March 04, 2009, 08:52:44 PM
I've made this offer a couple of times before and i've had a few people take me up on it.  I just thought i'd throw it out there again.  If you're going to be in the Chicago area and want to visit the Washburn/Parker custom shop, shoot me an email.

thanks,
Nick

Hey Nick, how about getting together a factory tour DVD for people that have no chance of taking you up on a personal walk about. Just please make sure it's available to the UK and Euro mob. Thanks.

Thanks for posting, Jim. On the first picture inside the plant, with the guitars stacked , do you know what the double cutaway, thick body electric might be?

Nice photos Jim, I'm envious.  In one of the photos, I saw a long row of Randell amps, I was wondering what they do to them there?  I thought they were made elsewhere, is that wrong? Are they repackaging them for shipping out to various dealers?

I can only go back 7 years in our system and i can only see what we sold, not what we produced.
2005 - 3
2004 - 5
2003 - 3
2002 - 15 (4 of these may have been flaws)
Sorry i can't be of more help.

Some more great pics from your good self Jim, I'm hoping Washburn can arrange a tour on DVD so that the UK and other off shoot colonies get a chance to Wander Round where some of our guitars are made. It would also be interesting if the powers that be could get together a similar project showing the Asian import facilities, seeing as almost every guitar that arrives in Europe is made there. These guitars are, on the whole, well finished and great sounding instruments and sell in great numbers to Washy Heads around the world. Come on Washburn I hear there's no shortage of camcorders over there, and I'm sure the employees would be proud to take part if they think that it would improve sales. Give Rudy a nudge he seems like a guy that gets things done.
Oh, and it would be nice to know if the Very Pregnant receptionist has a boy or girl strummer.

Nick,

Would love the chance to check out the shop, can you send me info on dates/times that are available to see the shop? My brother and I (mid-30s) were talking about this over the weekend and both live in the Chicago area.

Thanks,
Brad

Short and sweet Nick, would have liked a bit more time to wander round but that's quite a nice trailer for the main event. I expect the boys will be more excited over the Nuno event which is sure to be put up for view.
Oh and did the receptionist that Jim mentioned have her child?

Hi all,
Nick has scheduled a Washburn factory tour for my 14 year old son and I on Tuesday August 18, about 10am.  He asked me to post here to let everyone else know.  So, if anyone is in the Chicago area and would like a tour of the Washburn factory on August 18, please post here to let Nick know.

Thanks, and thanks to Nick.

I live in the Western Suburbs and would love to. I'm an oldtime acoustic guitarist and I'm sure my wife (the fiddler) would love to come also. What kind of dates/days/times work best for you ?

Hi Glenn,
I just got back from a trade show (Namm) and i'm leaving for China next week and then Frankfurt in March.  It's a pretty busy time for me but we can set something up when i get back from China.  Send me an email around mid February to remind me.

As a side note,  Fender does not allow tours of their facility.  What a shame...
+1 for Washburn

Hi,
I have been (favourably) impressed by the Washburn Factory Tour (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kXyM89SAQGA (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kXyM89SAQGA)).
Since I guess that chinese people can use the same CNC machines and programs shown in the video, I'm convinced that a Washburn guitar made in China can have a lot in common with the one made in the USA (except for the price, obviously).
But ... how Washburn makes the remaining Quality Control ?
The chinese factory works only on the specs, and the QC is made only at the finish (in the USA ?), or there is someone coming from the USA that does the QC all along the line ?
Thanks

Thats a great Idea +next time I,m in town , does that come with tickets for the blackhawks
just received my shipment of Washburn guitars after taking years off from selling the line
I was so impressed  with the quality for the price, hopefully they stop letting internet sales devalue their  product

For what it's worth, I recently asked if I could visit the boutique / builder that makes the current USA built Washburns. (I believe located in Cincinnati)  My request has been politely ignored .  Hmmmm.... ::)
