Merry Christmas Guys, I have to agree the F style is kewl..I just can't see myself spend the extra money for them..I still would love to have one. But lately Greg has me looking at different styles and I have Gas/mas for  others...LOL

But My wife and kids asked my Dad what would be a good thing to buy me for Christmas and he said.......FIDDLE..so now I have one and asking for something else at this time will get me Killed..oh well better make friends with QUINN [the fiddle expert of the WGF]

Fiddle! Congrats! Well, Magoo new adventures for you! Let's see now, the banjo, fiddle, and weren't you thinking about the resonator? You do that and you will officially learned to play three of the worst sounding instruments (other than the bagpipes)when played badly in the world. Of course when they are played well, a whole different story. I was so glad when my daughter chose the cello instead of the violin. Those beginning squeeks would have killed me, the beginning sqeeks on a cello are so much easier to stand..... best of luck buddy. I would think your mando will give you a head start on the fiddle, but the BOW! Ouch! that will take some getting used to.
Merry Christmas, and you have a lovely family to think of you in that way.

Well, that's crazy magoo.  I got a fiddle for Christmas too.  My folks got me one out of the blue.  It looked great, but I didn't know where to start with it so they handed me the receipt and said go to the music store and pick out something else if you want.  I hate to part with the fiddle but for just a few dollars more I can have a guitar I have been really GASing for.  I think I will wait and learn the fiddle some other time.

MMMmmm Cello...Nahhh Think i'll keep what I have...LOL
I'm hoping the mando will give me a bit of edge on the fiddle  but I think I'm gonna have fun for a while anyway...LOL

thats wild Merlin, I wouldn't trade mine in because i would be killed...LOL... and I don't think I could get much of a guitar for her without having to throw in  a lot of cash..I'm gonna give the fiddle a try.

easy, svgustin.  I was going to post pics, but I didn't know if it was a good idea to post pics of another brand than washburn on a washburn site.
I will if you think its ok.

Magoo, she sounds really good for the money.

it's relevant to the conversation.....compare it to a washburn somehow...be creative. Take a picture with your washburn side by side!

Dugly's flashing his breedlove in the koostic forum, don't see why you can't do the same.

...just my opinion

here's a question...were you able to compare your selection to a comparably priced Washburn in the shop?
Title: Merry Christmas
Post by: magoo99 on December 30, 2009, 12:32:39 AM
Agreed kimo , I have, and many more here have post pics of their other Brands here..and I will, till I'm told Not to by Washburn. Thats why I like this forum..washburn never seemed to be scared of the competition. and let us talk about our guitars and gear. and how our Washys stack up..I also would think this could help washburn make their brands better by listening/reading what their customers are saying and liking.

But, I can also see Merlins point, on most forums It is a touchy subject. I say to each his own. Even here I have started a small racket by posting another guitar makers link ...LOL

OK, if you guys think it is alright here are some pics.  It is a lower end Blueridge BR-60, but I am telling you the tone of this sucker is awesome.  It is just the inexpensive guitar that I wanted to carry around to bluegrass festivals when I am camping and stuff.

Nice  Merlin, Congrats. Isn't the Blueridge Guitars made more for the Bluegrass type of music? The ones I played were upper end guitars and I really liked them..I still would not give up my Washy for one but I really would like to have one like this BR-60 to play at the cottage, My old Oscer Smith OG2 has seen its better days...LOL

Very Nice Merlin. Lovin' the look of the back and the bookend matching there. Very nice indeed. So now, I am gonna have to do some googlin' to find out her specs!.....on the subject of other brands on this website......um, well I have owned two washies. Still got one. I come to this forum for the people I have met or correspond with here. Not to tout my instrument, or to compare or bad mouth or whatever. It doesn't bother me one bit either way. I suppose if someone were to rock up and start puttin' down Washburn or something then maybe not so good, but why the hell would somebody do that anyway? It would be like me going on the MArtin website and say how S***ty they are compared to say Collings or Bourgeois. Maybe to just wind up a couple of people, but it's pretty shallow and most smart people wouldn't take the bait anyway. I suppose if Washburn has a problem they can say so, but again, I would think Washburn is smart enough and this board is monitored enough to realize we are just a bunch of guys who enjoy their instruments and Bluegrass type music (excuse me you Celtic guys). In fact I will be getting myself a high end Bourgeois by the end of Jan( cat's out of the bag boys a D-150!) and I most certainly plan to post a few photo's... If it wasn't for this forum I may never have heard of Dana Bourgeois (he made a few geetars for washburn back in the day before Pantheon), So there you go. I wouldn't be here any longer if not for the people on here. The most non-judgmental people I have met on any forum. In fact the only forum I go to any more. Unless you guys want to start a fight or something, or won't talk to me anymore...I will continue to come here and read of others achievements and bungles and instrument purchases, and dreams of purchases.......and continue to post the same. So Merlin post away, and anybody else too. If the MAN don't like it well, he can say so and we will skulk around someplace else or play more of the instruments we have Washburn or other wise. (jeese, I must have had too much coffee this morning, I will get off my soap box now and go play my mandolin)

Dam Sam! MErlin.....what a nice box! Just did my googlin' and the bone nut and saddle is worth the price alone! Plus i do love the peghead inlay.....I'm a sucker for abalone, mother of pearl and curly maple.....I know, you don't have any curly maple on your guitar, but well, I am a sucker for it.........nice trade in...I would say. But um........does this mean you are not gonna ever learn to play the violin? If so, then all the pressure is on you Magoo! We need a fiddle player here on this forum. I guess you're it! Get busy with that bow boy![:D]

Nope Scott, Quinn Is the resident Fiddle player, He is the go to guy thats been playing for a while now, and seems to have a few impressive violins.
I agree with your take on this forum and glad you still drop by, You have been on the mando side now as long as I can remember, and your probably one of the members that have been here the longest on this dark side of the forum...LOL
I'm still not able to use the arm, The doc says I will not be playing fiddle for at least two more mths...I can play mando now with very little pain, so I'm a happy camper...LOL

Thanks guys for the compliments on my new baby.

Tio, yes believe it or not there was a D-10s there, but I didn't even play it.  I have owned one before so I pretty much knew what it was all about.  The Blueridge just has more of a big rich tone that is hard to describe.

Magoo, yeah in my mind I think the Blueridge is more for bluegrass music, but I really don't know what that means.  lol
and I youtubed it too and I don't think those clips do it justice.  It sounds good!

thanks svgustin, it does look as good as it sounds.  If you like the inlay on this one you should check out their higher end models.  I think they sound about as good as any high end guitar.
and no I not going to learn the fiddle any time soon. I wish I would practice my mandolin more than I do.
