Title: WI66PRO New Owner Question
Post by: difejo on January 08, 2010, 10:05:53 PM
Hello, I am new the forum and also learning to play guitar. I just purchased a new WI66PRO by mail order. I received it 1/7/2010.  It is a beautiful guitar.  I have one question regarding pickup hum. My Idol has the Seymour Duncan Pups.  The 59 in the neck and the Custom Custom in the bridge.  At full volume settings, the bridge pickup hums a bit.  If I touch the strings or any metal on the guitar the hum disappears.  Is this normal?

Thanks,

John

Sounds like a grounding issue. Im sure someone will be here to expand on this.

Junior, thanks.  I just checked all of the grounds with an ohmmeter.  The grounds look ok between the bridge, switches, pups and jack.  I was on the Seymour Duncan web site and the refer to the Custom Custom SH11 as a high output pup.  Would a high output pup hum when set at full volume?

I've got the same guitar, with the '59/CC set up. Had the VCC, pulled it in favor off 2 vol 2 tone/coil split arrangement. At no point with either set up did I have hum.

Not very experienced with trouble shooting this sort of issue. Just wanted to offer that info [:)]

You may consider posting this in the electric forum, or the Nuno forum, more hot rodders familiar with this stuff seem to hang out there.

Welcome to the forum.

I hang out at the Duncan forum a bit as well. Did you try this over there. TONS of dudes over there are all over this stuff.

One more thing....PICTURES!!

Thanks everyone for the advice.  This guitar is less than 1 week old.  From your comments I can see that the hum I am hearing is not normal. I phoned the store I purched it from and I am going to return it and get another one.  It appears that this guitar is defective.
