Title: BASEBALL BAT NECK?
Post by: Lafayette2010 on February 28, 2010, 01:03:51 PM
I have a Martin D12X1. [:)][:)]  I love the tone, but I’m not crazy about the neck. [:p]  Even though my fingers are on the long side I still have some problems getting a comfortable chord hand position.  I don’t feel the flexibility that is needed nor can I bear into the strings.  I know that this sounds dumb, but the neck feels too rigid.

Does this Martin D12X1 has one of those Martin famous baseball necks or is it just me?  [:(]

I'll take a swipe at this....please describe your posture and the positioning of the guitar as you are playing.  I have some ideas...

I got a Billie Martin signed baseball cap that I like a lot. It's probably worth as much as a Martin D12X1 baseball bat.

Nothing under the sun is new Watson. .... Sherlock Holmes

I have some of this, and some of that.

YerDugliness, thank you for your offer. [:)]

I play in a more than slightly raised lying position in an electric hospital bed with the guitar across my belly with my right knee raised to support it.

Unfortunately, I can't play any guitar in my electric wheelchair.

Get yourself a lap steel guitar....you'll be able to play it in that position and you can set it across the arms of the wheelchair, too.

You'll need to learn to play in open tunings, but if you are a musician you'll have no problems with that.

Or, you could learn to play in standard tuning like this guy:

YerDugliness,

Thanks for the link.  That guy plays better with his two feet than I do with my two hands.
