Title: Bridge Direction
Post by: forevertheuni on January 23, 2011, 06:26:12 AM
Hi, I've changed the pickups in my wi64dl..and I'm stupid... I took out the bridge withouth paying attention if the bols where pointing down or up.
I searched a lot of photos in the internet and I see both .
They should be pointing towards the pickups or down?
Cause I can't make my A(La) string to have the rightintonation.

Thanks for the help.

flathead screws should be directed towards the bridge pickup, not towards the bottom of the guitar.

Would turning the saddle round help?

was your intonation good prior to doing the work?

NCM is right, there's no law about which way the saddle is mounted. Intonation is key. The individual saddles can be flipped 180 degrees allowing for more adjustment, but it seems odd to me that that would be necessary. That's a pretty dramatic change.

Yes, it was ok. If I fret from A to B and C the tuner gives me sharp right away. Lowering or raising the bridge could interfere? Since it was sharp and the saddle was almost in the back I raised the bridge in the E-A-D side(up) a bit, trying to put it a bit flatter.(maybe I should lower? More tension = less lenghwave = more frequency (even sharper)?)
I have DR-blackbeauty strings(it's 1st time with such coated strings) if that says something.

About the saddle, I can try , but it was ok before, and the curious is that only the top 3 strings(E-a-d) have intonation problems now, the other 3 are perfect.
Should I lower the bridge the most I can to the limit of buzzing, or is there any other aspect I should look into?

Thanks for all the help. I'm still learning how to calibrate my guitar :( .

You should have a string height of about 5/64 at the 17th fret.  Then set the intonation.  Note that the Buff Feiten system has some different things about it.
