Title: New HB 36
Post by: salad dodger on November 05, 2013, 02:23:24 PM
Just received my HB 36 in Vintage finish, its gorgeous !!! First
thing that struck me was how light it was , after several solid body
guitars this relative lightweight felt so comfortable.
I had tried a lovely red HB 35 in a Cash Converters a few months ago
and was knocked out by the quality of the instrument and the how
easy it felt to play so when I read about the new 36 I really wanted one.

Had a few issues getting my hands on one but after a few weeks being
patient  it turned up but was worth the wait , straight out of the box it was
in tune and properly set up , a good look all over confirmed it was in perfect condition
and ready to plug in to my Peavey amp.
Had a play round with all the settings and got a very crunchy thick sound
but could bring it straight back to a lovely jazzy clean.
Lovely neck and suits me well , any niggles ???  Not at this price £369
for a good quality instrument yup I love it !!!  :)  :)  :)

Surprised to hear that the HB36 feels light even after playing solid bodies for a while. I've done the same, (changing between solid body guitars that I own and the HB35) and the weight of my HB35 gets me everytime.  I'm not in the habit of giving my guitars names, but; when it came to my HB35, I named it "The BEAST", I love it, but to me it is quite heavy. Thought that the HB36 would give much of the same in the weight department.  Love the Washburn HB series! Congrats on your new HB36......have fun!

Hi buddy, should have mentioned my other guitar is a
Vintage lemon drop les paul made out of a solid chunk of mahogany
yes the HB is a bit bigger but definitely lighter also I was reading in
the States you get a free case with it , you don't in the UK wonder why ??
have fun & don't forget to boogie

I hear what you're saying about the weight of your vintage Les Paul. I have a Les Paul Custom Twentieth Anniversary Model and a Gibson L6s Custom (yeah, I know, they're from the Norlin era, but; love them so) and just taking them out of their cases feels like you're picking up a telephone pole, let alone strapping them on for play. Read somewhere once that Jimmy Page has a permanent dent in is left shoulder from playing those old, heavy Les Pauls for so long. I have 4 Korean made electric guitars made around 2002 - 2006, much lighter guitars, thought that you might be originally speaking of guitars of that ilk. Don't know why Washburn offers free cases with some of their guitars, particularly stateside, perhaps Washburn CS can give an answer?

Yeah very true about Les pauls but its amazing at the quality
of some so called cheaper instruments that that are available , people
should stop looking at the name on the top of the neck pick em up
and play them, its amazing at the finish sound and playability of
a lot of £500 or less guitars out there now

Can I ask where you got your HB36? I've had problems finding one in the UK!
