Title: Picked up a '92 N2 - questions.
Post by: sdmfer on December 21, 2014, 04:05:00 PM
Hey guys, have some questions here. Just picked up a Feb '92 N2 today. Was a little mistreated with a friggen BLOWTORCH!!, but I figured when I have some time I can sand most of it down and refinish etc. See pics. LOL. dorky but nice to have another early 90's N2 in the home.

Anyways ...a little weirdness. My main guitar since I bought it new is an August '91 N2 which I love. After picking up the '92 today I noticed it was almost too long for the case which i have always used for mine. Weird i thought. So i get home and take some measurements. lol.

Seems the body on the new one is almost exactly 1 inch longer. I measured from the lowest part of each cutaway to the bottom of the guitar and compared with my '91. Weird??? I would have thought that the 91 and 92' were the same given that the serial number is only 6 months apart.

Also took a digital caliper to both necks. The 92 is very slightly wider at the 1st and 12th fret than my 91, and the nect is slightly thinner than my 91 (measured from the 12th fretboard to the back of the neck for thickness).

Any thoughts? I'll try and post some pics.

my 91 is has the N2 decals, and the 92' well, has the s**ty torch job lol. Sitting in my lap playing position i like the bit bigger body of the burnt guitar.

edit - also see the distance of the pup selector switch from the neck you can really see the diff.

I've also found the same w/ the newer n2's as well. There's no consistency from one to another ie. China vs Indonesia. I don't have an answer but just confirming what you've found.

I would agree to that, but just a questioning since the early 90's were made in Korea and known to be better. Either way I like both of mine, and the recent addition is my son's Christmas present.

I gotta say, both look weird to my eyes.  The blow-torched guitar is definitely strange...the body is bigger than a typical N2.  Possibly a knockoff body.  Now, the guitar with the N2 sticker almost looks right, however, I've never seen the pickup toggle switch so close to the neck pickup.  They look off on both the guitars, but especially the non-torched N2. ???  Strange.
