Post by: MapleFlix on July 30, 2017, 03:18:29 PM
Hi!
found this D66SW on ebay, couldn't resist.. :D
S/N: 791888, does that mean it's from 1979?

Most likely yes, for Washburns of that era.  Nice unit !!

Dunno. I though that early steel-string acoustics were all snakehead. Certainly, it's unusual even for Washburn.

Much lack of information. It's not in the condensed Blue Book, I can't find my Big Book, & it's not on their site.

Someone on eBay sold one as a "1973," which is impossible. That leads me to suspect its s/n was 73xxxx, & that therefore this doesn't have a two-digit year code, but one-digit. If all that conjecture holds together, I'd guess it at 1987... okay, maybe 1997. ::) Something about the headstock inlay says "1990s" to me, but now I can't find my notes. But really very unlikely to be 1979.

In any case, please keep it humidified!! A lovely instrument.

Looks exactly the same as the one pictured in the 1981 catalogue.

My D62 Prairie Song is S/N. 80xxxx and is a 1980 (I bought it new in 1984 in Australia, and it had been in stock a while ... )

The "Martin-style" headstock was standard on the late 70s/early 80s Washburn MIJ (Yamaki-built) dreads.  The "V" headstock is mid-80s onwards I believe.

Nice find!.....I think it probably is a 1979.  Really well built Japanese guitars.....I'm fortunate to  have a 1981 12 string version:

Thanks all!

Hey bigcity, that 12-string is cool!
I have a d61sw-12 and I really like the spacing, stringed with 6 strings, much more for fingerstyle, which is what I mostly play now. My D66' spacing is the narrowest of all my Washies.
