There is nothing Washburn left about Washburn.

They have canned every electric model that was ever popular for them, from the Wings and A Series, through the KCs and MGs and now the Idols.
The current RX Series look like a guitar you buy via an old Sears catalog. The XM..... not much better. Looks really cheap, and I believe that headstock design is being used by several Far East brands now.
There is nothing unique about Washburn's current electrics - and the price/value ratio isn't unique either. Might as well get a Cort or Samick without the Washburn decal - nicer designs at least.
Nothing left but a logo I am afraid.

I think you're wrong, all I can say from knowing the people who work at Washburn, is that they are some very nice people with a big passion for guitars, and personally I like the new XM models a lot. I for one felt also sad that most of the US models were gone, but it seems that with the new lines, things are again moving in the right direction with the US XM and new N4 models. I just hope to see some new Idol US models in the future :)

Hi Nick,

cool to read you here and that NAMM was a great show, really dig the photos I saw so far on the web, from the new N4 models to the b-bender acoustics, look forward to test drive them at Musikmesse ;)

Kind regards,

Why did you buy your 1st Washburn?: I needed a guitar solidbody alternative to a LP
Future Plans: Another Washburn, NUNO N4 with some special wood, really my favorite guitar, and an Idol if Washburn decide to build some new US models again.

Yep, sad but true ertle, but then everything has become more expensive and our income is more then it was when we were younger ;) That said, I really don't understand what happened to the US Custom Shop, it was such a great collection of nice instruments and good alternatives to other brands ... almost all gone. Snif ... ;(

General Discussion / 7 and 8 string guitars
« on: October 24, 2010, 03:43:45 AM »
Yes, sad about the US custom shops, but i also think Washburn should think more about it, while 7 strings is a must have for a serious guitar brand, 8 string guitars are really becoming in these days, really wish Washburn could make some ...

Today I had the chance to try one of those Ibanez 8 string guitars, which for playing 8 finger tapping is really very cool, and it made me think that washburn had a 7 string guitar in the past, there are still some on ebay. Is there hope to see new 7 or 8 strings from Washburn in the future ? I even saw a photo of a N4 with 7 strings, wow that would be cool, are those still available today?

Please Nick & Washburn, bring back those beautifull custom shops you had, I really hope to see some new US custom shops in the near future. Some of the new guitars are cool, but some high end guitars would be cool.

And yes, I miss those great Idol WI68 customs, probably the best and most original LP style guitar I've ever played. Really hope to see those back in the future.

Idol Series / NEW IDOL SHAPE
« on: February 08, 2010, 04:09:38 AM »

You are correct that we didn't take any Original Idols to Namm.  The decision to keep it was made at Namm based on responses from many of our dealers after seeing the new product.

That's good news Nick! Hope you'll also do some high end Custom Shop versions, miss the US Wi models on your website.
