I guess one thing I should've asked is how is the general quality on these? I've owned US and Mexican Fenders, Chinese Ibanezes, my last bass was a Ric 4003 (honestly was not all that impressed).

I heard these basses retailed new for 3x what I paid, what gives?

You're confusing "active electronics" with "active pickups." I've encountered no-battery Bartolini setups plenty of times.

I've never seen a battery-powered Washburn that doesn't have a separate battery cover on back. If there's no battery compartment, there likely was never a battery.

All the XB-900 control cavity pictures I see have the battery housed inside that cavity. (I'll put a picture of a standard xb900 cavity) But yeah I see what you mean about the pickups, that's what I was talking about in my other post. I figured these are just passive bart soapbars and if there was a pre at one point it was an onboard pre + passive pickups.

I'll post a picture of the SN when it gets here in a few days. From what I understand these bartolini soapbars may just be passive and paired with an active washburn preamp.

Take a look at these passive pickups on the bartolini website:

I'll open it up too when I get it.

Discuss Basses and Bass Playing / New Washburn on the way, was it modded?
« on: February 14, 2016, 01:34:50 PM »
I ordered a Washburn xb-900 from GCs used site (I called the store about the other natural colored one and was told the truss rod is broken, for anyone who is wondering why I didn't just buy that one). It looks to be in good shape but it appears like it could've been modded.

The knobs are different, and the guy said it was passive and if you look at the pics has a selector switch where the knob usually is. The guy opened it up and swore up and down that it wasn't modded (But then again it is a GC employee).

I can't find any info about a model like this, is it possible the previous owner yanked out the pre and is running it passive? I wouldn't think the Bartolinis would work like that.

Only paid $415 after tax and shipping so I'm not in it for too much. I'll post the pics the employee sent me in a little while.
