Discuss Basses and Bass Playing / What Sucks?!?!
« on: June 18, 2004, 08:51:25 PM »
Ok,

this goes against my personal creed but what sucks?  Is there a song or a band or a musician that makes you doubt the existence of a god?  YOu feel that they exist merely to torture you.  I like to think that no music sucks, it has elements that I don't like.  Disco doesn't suck[xx(], it just has meaningless lyrics, the beat is too rigid and the progression lacks soul.  You get the idea![:D]
Clear Channel sucks!  They control the radio stations and venues here in the states.  Not all of em, but enough to make it tough on the little guys.  They are single handedly ruining the industry here by losing money and squeezing out independent operations(clubs & radio stations & even some stores too).  Ok, that's my 2 cents.  What do you think sucks?[?]

Hi Washburn lovers,

Just promoting June 4th at the Hard Rock in Cleveland.  Plasma will play a short set warm up  before OUR CD Release Party Blowout in August.  We'll go on around 10 pm and if you're in the area it will be quite the rauckus show.  We have new material(unless you've never heard us before, then it's all new) and some new Washburns to break in!  My new washburn bass has a Kahler Whammy bar I'm dying to use live, and some new Bart pickups that distort quite nicely.  See us now and bring your friends too.  Some people own a washburn, I play a washburn.

Discuss Basses and Bass Playing / Effects pedals vs rack units
« on: September 08, 2003, 03:19:46 PM »
When I started out, I used some hand me down effects pedals(distortion, chorus, flange), but the cost of batteries and the wear on small patch cables drove me to a rack effect.  No power issues and it's always patched into the preamp.  Now I'm beginning to rethink things through.  I'm curious as to what others are using.  I recently did a lo-fi recording(White Stripes, Queens of the stonge age) and I needed some fuzz for the bass tone.  I ran through a small distortion box that escapes now and a Matt Amp head.   Nice tone, but still not the over drive I'd like.  My other head was in the shop so I had to make do with what the studio had.  I'd like a low rumble with and overtone growl on sharp attacks.  Just short of the squeal that pickups make when they crack.  I'll talk about other tones later.

Welcome to the Southeast US Washburn Jam Group. / Coming to Nashville, TN
« on: September 08, 2003, 09:00:11 AM »
Hey all you southeasterners!  Thought I'd drop a line and see who's out and about.  I'll be playing at a club called the Sutler 2608 Franklin Rd on Saturday, September 13 as part of http://www.2NMC.com.  It's a week long festival in Nashville.  If there are any members in Nashville then come on out.  It's a GoGirlsMusic showcase and I'll be playing with a band called the decline.  Take care.

I wondered if anyone else had isssues with the Buzz Feiten tuninng System that washburn is promoting?  I love the instruments, but the bridge is too sensitive.  The first time I changed strings was right before a show and the darned thing needed a setup just to play.  My low e string was dead.  I was horrified that i had to be so delicate under the circumstances.  I ended up stripping the adjustable screws and couldn't find replacements anywhere.  I ended up having the stock bridge removed and having a schaller installed.  It's my dream instrument again.  Am I the only Dufus who has problems with the bridge?  Is it really that sensitive or am I just heavy handed?

Here is a more personal question.  Why do you play Washburn?  How did you find your axe?  What is your path that led you to become a member of this group?

I was looking in the local music store for a new bass when this Washburn Force 8 with a maple neck caught my eye.  I remember reading about washburns as a kid, but they weren't big in bass circles.  I tried it and it seemed like it was made for my hands.  I fell in love with it(this could get very bad).  Then I found out that it had a Kahler Whammy bar installed.  It's definitely a fine crafted instrument.  As it got abused by shows, I had to retire it but i needed a replacement and I wanted another Washburn so I ordered the XB-400.  It has surpassed my expectations.  I can say that I don't play them for show, I play em cause they're good!

That's my sappy story, now what's yours?

Discuss Basses and Bass Playing / Stolen Gear
« on: July 20, 2003, 05:58:24 PM »
Hi all,

I'm asking that this be passed around to stores, clubs, and shops in your area.   Some equipment was stolen from my car on Monday, July 14.   I know, I know, I feel real dumb, but it was wrong none the less.   The taken items were my:

 Korg DTR-2 Rack Tuner serial # 022931,

a Galien Krueger 800RB bass Amp(don't have the serial #),

an SKB 4 Space Roto Rack

my David Eden D115-XLT (serial # 35735)
w/leopard print under the grill and casters, and a dent in a front corner.  I dare say, it's probably the only one in Ohio( if it is still in Ohio as the police doubt by now).

Also taken was my Tony'n Tina's wedding Duffle bag with assorted cords and guitar stands, one of which has a shuttlecocks sticker on it!

I have other gear and my Washburn basses for just such a predicament, but I still feel violated none the less.   If you see any of these items, I would appreciate it if you would contact me and the authorities also.  Thanks for your help and time.

I'm not asking for sympathy, just for folks to keep an eye out.

« on: March 06, 2003, 06:22:16 AM »
Is anyone going to the www.sxsw.com music festival?  Is anyone here performing there? [?]  It would be nice to see the player behind the nickname.  Even if you are not performing, I enjoy networking and being turned on to new bands.  [:)]   I'm trying to hook up with people in advance of the event.
