Post your thoughts on Banjos & Mandolins / Washburn 4 string open back tenor banjo

Hello all. I recently inherited my Grandfather's banjo. It's a 4-string open back Washburn tenor banjo. I would love to find more info about it. The guys at my local guitar store said they guessed it was from the mid-30s or mid-40s. On the inside it says "4946 Washburn 5177" -- I'm guessing one of those is the model number and the other is the serial number, though I don't know which is which. The bridge says "BACON" on it.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
