That's a WI64 DL Quilt top, but I've never seen it with diamond inlays before

a picture would help :)

The only Idols that keep popping up with a tremolo are the WI66V and the WI50V

Idol Series / WI590 back from the dead

I bought this guitar off eBay, Washburn were just bought by Jam and they dumped everything they had in the custom shop
finished or unfinished, I managed to buy this guitar with just the sealer on it, looks like it was originally white and had the color
stripped off due to some QC problem.
It was in it's case for more than 7-8 years, I wanted it finished, I just kept forgetting about it.
a few months back I finally had it finished.
I had it repainted in black on top and Gibson-ish dark red on the back, keystone grovers 1:18
and Bareknuckle Miracle man pickups and all gold hardware.

I've had my name added to the headstock instead of the "Washburn Custom Shop" decal they used to ad to these guitars.
that's the closest I'll probably get to a custom USA Idol.

The Idol has nothing to do with Nuno.

if you still want a USA idol, try this one

WI566, it's a slimmer body with Mahogany Back and Maple top
binded fretboard and abalone inlays.

I own one, it's lighter and plays like a dream.

You've got the basic USA Idol
Mahogany body and neck
Duncan Custom Custom at the bridge and a Duncan '59 at the neck

it might be a bit darker than the les paul since it doesn't have a maple top, but upper fret access
is much much better than the Lester.

I think you're gonna like it.

Hi Brian

You've got an upgraded WI66 which came with EMG pickups
Washburn used to allow dealers to order special runs of Korean made Idols, as long as they order 50 of them.
so what you've got is one out of 50 special run WI66 Pro-E idol.

you can check out this thread for specs

While the WI series was aimed at the PRS crowd (finish, special inlays, light weight)
The Pilsen series was aimed at the Les Paul crowd, heavier body, finish level varies
PI70 was a basic mahogany body with maple top, basic opaque color finish, simple fret board with no binding which is the equivalent to the Les Paul studio
the PI80 was a step up with flamed maple top, burst finish, body and neck binding.
the PI90 was closer to the Les Paul custom, black or white finish block inlays, weight relief body.

personaly I own a PI80 and a WI590.

and here we are 7 years later, I wonder how things are working for Washburn without the Idol?
any plans to make the smart choice and bring back the Idol?
especially the one that made the model stand up  - the WI68?
with the 68 Washburn was aiming at PRS and Gibson, with the false Idol of 2009 they were aiming at the shallow end of the market.

WB-Nick? are you still here? any updates?

Washburn sold all of their USA stock with matte finish after the Jam take over of US Music, as part of
stopping USA guitar production.
the prices were significantly lower than usual production models.

try checking with Washburn customer service, they might have more info on production numbers

Let's be honest, once Rudy Schlacher sold the company it was obvious things are
going to change, I hoped for the best, looks like we got the worst.

I own 4 Idols, lucky I managed to catch one of the stripped down bodies they sold
on ebay, a nice WI590 which needs a lot of work, but it's gonna feel like a brand new
USA idol once I'm done with it.

as for Washburn, right now they sell nothing that I want to buy, I hope the company will
return into making exciting new instruments in the future.
