« on: January 15, 2009, 04:28:27 PM »
I apologize for the abrupt change to the new address on Thursday evening but our tech at our ISP was going to be out Friday so we had to make the change while he was still there. I trust you all found your way here. This is the last time you'll need to hunt down the forum.

« on: January 14, 2009, 04:45:39 PM »
For those of you who reach the forum through a bookmark please note the address will change again sometime Friday. This is to eliminate the IP address and the 1 directory deep path of http://216.142.150.41/forum/.
We'll be switching to http://forums.washburn.com sometime before noon Friday. You will still be able to reach the forums from the main site menu as well.
Thanks for your patience,
The fine folks of Washburn.

Post your thoughts on Banjos & Mandolins / M118SW & M116SW mini review
« on: October 10, 2008, 03:55:26 PM »
There have been some questions about availability of these models & how they sound so here is a very short summary. There are currently (10/10/08) 20 M116SW and 12 M118SW mandos in stock here at the warehouse. Please request that your local dealer stock these.

I compared each of these with a 2000 M3SW that I own and know the sound of. Other employees here sat in front as I played open g to d & back and then some chop chords.

The M118SW is thicker than our other mandolins with the exception of the M120. It also has wider string spacing. You can see this in the pics below compared to my M3SW. The M3SW also has ground wound strings while the other 2 have round wounds.

Both M116SW & M118SW are "vintaged" for a classic worn in look & feel.

Comments on the M118SW included “biggest sounding, loudest, most low end, balanced tone.”

M3SW – “Most mids, similar volume to M116SW, very balanced.”

M116SW – “Smaller sounding, brightest, best for open chords.”

I liked the M118SW so much, I’m saving to buy one.
