Title: Bass string action
Post by: nobby1dog on November 27, 2006, 03:50:03 PM
Hi, could anyone give me some advice on string height.
I am new to playing bass and was wonder about the action on my bass.
What is a good distance to have between the strings and the fretboard.
I play rock and i am also trying to play funk and slap(i allways like a challenge)
Any advice would be great.
Thanks people.

There are different places on the web. Just google bass setup and you should find some.

Here is a site to get you started.

I'd keep them just low enough not to buzz when you pluck the string at a normal/hard pluck. Any higher and you might get a fatigued hand sooner than later. Not to mention carpel tunnel later in life. Keep them low. You might have to get string-sized files to file the nut a little, but nery little. Do some adjusting, play it for a day or two and do some more adjusting. Take your good old time.
