It's a 2004 chinese built D52SWCE.  It was housed in one of the tolex covered plywood cases, and it was brand spanking new!  It's just been sitting on the shelf for a couple of years.

The mahogany is rich and striking to the eye, and the maple bindings offer an excellent contrast between the spruce top and the body.  After I got it tuned up, the sound matches the experience of the eye!  It's very light (I suppose that I was expecting it to be somewhat heavier), and it's very well balanced.  Check this out... the setup is almost perfect!!  No need to adjust the action, but it seems just a tad higher on the bass side than what I am used to.  I'm going to leave it as it is for now.

I did notice that a couple of control wires for the preamp popped loose, probably in shipping.  When I change the strings tonight, I will clip them back into place.  I also noticed the tiniest ding on the top.  I was giving it the major once over with ultimately close scrutiny, or I would have missed it for sure.  Hey... for $450, I'll take it!!

All in all, the sound is excellent.  Playability is superb, and I now know why Pike was interested in her.  VERY SOLID!!!  Quite a guitar!

Now to arrange the sale of my D34SCE Augusta.  This one is a keeper!

Here is a link (http://www.dirkesfamily.com/guitar/d52swce/) with all of the pics.

Thanks bro!  It's amazing that I got it at all, since I didn't win the auction.  I got one of those Second Chance offers, which of course I thought it was bogus.  I emailed the guy about it, and sure enough... it was legit.  I scored it for $425 plus shipping!  Ain't that the junk?

I almost mentioned that, because it really bugs me too.  I mean, how hard is that to pull off?

Thanks man... I'm not cured, but unless an incredible deal comes rolling along, I'm done for a while.  My wife was a bit ticked off at this latest purchase.  I showed her that they list for $1399.90 (I didn't explain about list & street pricing though) and then reminded her what I paid for this guitar.  I also told her that I was going to be paring back the fleet some too.  That ought to bring in another $1000 or so when I'm done.

Say... I was looking at your pics in the other thread, and I was admiring that PII.  I love the shape.  Quite unique.

Have to agree.  I purchased the D52SW and it has a beautiful tone that can only improve with age... a real plus for solid wood guitars.

Yes, the D52SW is a great guitar! I have one and classify it as my best! The sound even surprized the store salesman when it came in after I had ordered it. Sweet sound and sweet looks. I really like the wood binding. Nice touch.
