Idol Series / in guitar pre-amps
« on: June 06, 2010, 08:31:37 PM »
instead of having two volume and two tone knobs on my WI-14, could I somehow end up with 1 volume, 1 tone, and 2 other misc knobs? how hard would this be to do, and what would be the losses/benefits of doing such? thanks!!

Idol Series / WI 14 volume/tone knob change questions
« on: June 03, 2010, 05:54:22 PM »
As I understand it, there are two volume and two control knobs. Two have capacitors soldered on, two do not. I assume the one's with the caps are either both volume, or both tone, but I don't know which.

What I want to do is have 1 volume, 1 tone, and put something else as a pre-amp for the other two knobs. maybe gain and something else, i'm not sure.

how would I go about doing this? thanks.

Idol Series / WI-14 Overhaul, a few questions, new member
« on: June 01, 2010, 05:12:45 PM »
Hey guys. I'm back into guitar playing after 6 years off. I started off at 17 playing, but never really learned anything, became discouraged, sold my old Washburn and quit. I got back into it just recently, and trying earnestly to learn. I got an acoustic I really like playing, and bought a Washburn WI-14 with a Roland amp off craigslist for $140. When I went to buy it, I saw the neck wasn't on straight, turns out screws were stripped. I know how to fix that, but I figured while it's apart, I might as well overhaul it.

I'm going to change the pickups solely because when I took out to top one (near the neck) there was a cut in the wire, exposing it, and since an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, I'm going to change it, and change them both while I am at it. Here are the pickup's i'm thinking about buying (for the cheap price, and great reviews it gets). also, how can I know these will fit, and can I get a cover to cover these up?

secondly, how do I take off the volume and tone knobs to change them? i looked for a bit and couldn't figure it out, so I figured i'd ask.

third, I'm gonna strip the old paint off (silver metallic or whatever) and repaint it. I am gonna go with a white primer base then a burnt orange (texas longhorn color) with some flake in it and add a black pearl pickplate. what is the best kind of paint to use? I was just gonna have a pint of automotive paint mixed up, spray it on with a cup gun, and clear coat it. is this acceptable?

thanks for all the future responses!
