Idol Series / Keep vcc, and add tone control?
« on: December 17, 2015, 11:56:45 PM »
Don't know if this is do-able, but I like the vcc system, but I'd like a bit more tone control. Is it possible to add  maybe a master tone control? Is there a way to add more tone control to the guitar without drilling more holes in the guitar? I know rolling the volume off a bit can knock some of the high frequency off, but is there a way to get more tonal adjustment? I really do like the vcc, and I want to keep it.

Idol Series / Re: Washburn Idol Series WI64TRK – Trans Red

I recently missed out on a trans red one, and am hoping to pick up a black one, soon.  Not played any of these, just a wi45, and a wi66.  I think these look cool. More SG than LP..

D10 Series / Which guitar to get?
« on: March 02, 2011, 02:37:11 PM »
I've been looking at acoustic's, lately, and I had a few in mind to try. Managed to try 2 of them today. A D10S which totally blew me away. I was like, That's it! That's the sound!
Then I tried a Yamaha FG700S... I was looking forward to it, one of the guys in the shop thought I'd like it even better than the D10, but it was dull, lifeless... I've always had a soft spot for Yamaha's, since my brother had one years ago. The other guy heard me strike up with the Yamaha, and gave me this (WTF?) look.. He comes over and says, Not as good as the other one, is it..!
I was like, Sounds crap after the other one, eh!!

So, it's a D10S for me! Can't wait!!!

thanks for the nice comments, guys! i'm really happy with it.
yeah, Indonesian. They seem to make a decent enough guitar out there. I've got 3 - my 2 Idols, and an epiphone EJ200. They are all dammn fine guitars for the money.

I wasn't looking to buy another Washburn. I was looking at 70's/80's Japanese guitars.
Then on a wednesday night, I saw a WI66ProG on a Japanese (shopping?) website. Wow!
Sure, I'd seen them before, but I wasn't into gold guitars..
I placed the order on thursday morning, and a big box arrived on saturday morning. Well done Reidy's!
I paid $279 inc. postage, which is c. $100 cheaper than I've seen them anywhere, ever!
Opened the boxes (double boxed!). Ooooh! Gigbag! The advert hadn't mentioned it, and I couldn't remember what the Washburn site had said. Good quality bag, too!
Opened the bag and pulled out the guitar. Ooooh..! Nice!!
The gold top looks beautiful. It's really nicely applied, very much like my white WI45. The contrast of the front and rear of the guitar is really striking. Now I understand why people love gold top's. The inlays are all beautifully done, as on my WI45.
Plug in. The guitar plays beautifully. I love the necks on these things! Nice weight. Everything's just right, y' know..
Only recently discovered the charms of p90/p100's after putting a Tonerider p90 in the neck pos. of a home build project. This guitar sounds amazing. The range and quality of the tones is amazing, and the push/pull coil tap's are a nice touch. This guitar is going to get played A LOT!
There are a couple of minor finishing niggles, which for $279 I feel bad for even mentioning. The joins of the body pieces are really obvious on the rear of the guitar. They almost jump out at you! The headstock binding/masking is a bit naff. too.
It's a beautiful guitar, though. It balances well. Plays like a dream, and sounds fantastic! Can't wait to take it to band rehearsal... and maybe get some heavier strings on it!

Idol Series / Washburn Les Paul copy sorta thing

Got a shock when I clicked my bookmarked 'Idol series' link yesterday. At least I found the depleted 'original' idol line after backtracking. thing is, i just don't fancy any of them.. i hope they expand the 'original' line again. not a big fan of veneer. rather see mahogany than a slither of maple.
ok, mine are all painted, but i'm so glad i got my 2 before this happened, though!!

can't help wondering how the new idols will sell...

Idol Series / NC 70 Idols,"dowdy" guitars..?

Not all virtuoso lead guitar 'stars' are GOOD rhythm players. Some even VALUE a good rhythm guitarist, and give them due acknowledgment!
Just 'cos someone can **** all up and down the guitar neck doesn't necessarily make them 'interesting'. In fact, fast widdly guitar **** is some of the most boring s**te out there! IMO..

So I don't have a problem with rhythm players having a sig. model, as such...

hi guys!

some months after acquiring my white wi45, i had decided that that was it, and all my current guitars were keepers!
then a few days ago i started looking longingly at 70's/80's Japanese electrics on evilbay.. just had to have one of those old guitars..!

so i put my MIM fender tele up for sale or trade.

then last night i saw a new WI66 Pro G on the web for $cheap. and this morning i bought it! should be here in a day or 2.
still got to sell the tele, and maybe some more stuff, as it's 1 in-1 out these days!
Funny thing - I always HATED gold guitars until very recently, when i started to come round to them a bit.. ain't life weird!
Pics and review as soon as!

Idol Series / Who loves the Idol?

i like the original idol aesthetically speaking for 2 main reasons... 1, it's kinda like a les paul. 2, it's a bit different to a les paul.
another les paul copy, is just another les paul copy.

I, too, love the VCC system but miss tone knobs (once in a while). Why not use a WAH pedal as a tone knob?

What do they call that finish? It looks like one of those NASA photo's of far away solar systems or something. have you got a link to bigger pics, by any chance? Would love a closer look!!
