Acoustic Guitar Players Post Comments & Questions / F42S

The seller (p-hill)focused on a 2mm patch of discoloration at the heel of the neck... and said nothing re: the back. If the guitar wasn't such a lovely play, back it would have gone ... but the fact that it is very comfortable, sounds great and is potentially a first attempt to get my hands into guitar rehab work ... gives me yet another direction.
ps... thanks for your insite re: the looming potential of lam. back ... I'll need to be extra careful when I sand down the back , esp, the edges  ... this will be a great project!

Hey Pike,

Thanks for the info. Looks like the back and sides are soild rosewood ... much to my surprise ... identical grain pattern and color inside and out. Nice guitar!
I now see why the scratch and dent sale price. Looks like someone had a mishap with the back and attempted a refinish. Ooops ... Needless to say it didn't match the sides ... a lot darker and has a deep mahogany oxblood finish.
Oh yeah, and there is a bunch of orange-peel and a few bubbles ... geez!!
OK... this instrument has a nice balanced sound and is a real pleasure to play. I am tempted to try my hand at refinishing the back again. I've been a member of luthiersforum.com (interesting builders forum)for a while and have picked up lots of energy and information re: building acoustics ...  Have not got to buying a kit yet but need to start somewhere and maybe finish repair might be just the place....
Anyway, I have attempted to email Washburn.com (customer service) with the question re: the original product used as finish... doesn't look much like nitrocellulose and I'll bet whatever... it was a UV enhanced process as well ...  The customer service email is like talking into a black hole   ... no response . I guess I'll try a few solvents on a small patch to see what works and take it form there.
Anyway just thought that anyone looking for the F42S might like to know that it is a very nice sounding and playing instrument ...  thanks for your ear!

Hey Tammany,
How did you ever make out with that F42S? I just e-bayed one and should get it in a week or so. Also, found any details suspiciously absent from the net ... I'm a little apprehensive but it appeared to be just the right size and if it is truely solid rosewood back and sides, I will have that for which I was looking.

Just ebayed a scratch and dent Washburn F42-S, Folk style acoustic from p-hill.

I looked high and low for detail re: back and side wood.
Strange to find absolutely no detail anywhere [?]. Was advertised as Solid Rosewood. Guess I just wanted to get confirmation from someone... I am sure I'll find out as soon as it arrives.

Presently have a F52-SWCE. Love the 000 size. This folk style fits ... for me.

Any thoughts
