That's a sharp lookin' guitar, too bad about the neck.

I haven't posted much lately either.  Been a busy summer with the family and work, I bet that's the case with others too.

I have done a lot of guitar and banjo playing this summer and feel like I've learned a lot and improved much.  I'm grateful to be able to play at all, even at my modest level, it's such a fun thing to do and brings so much satisfaction.

Post your thoughts on Banjos & Mandolins / banjo identification?

Sorry, I can't help date it but that puppy is vintage.  The wooden coordinating rod (if you can even call it that) is interesting.

Try posting at http://www.banjohangout.org/forum/ and see if you get any answers.  I'd love to know what you find out about it.

Looks like a good one, let us know how it sounds when it comes in.

How about that Intelli IMT500 clip on digital tuner product link down at the bottom of the page.  That looks good for $15. Anybody got one?

I had an Ibanez bass once but don't know anything about their guitars.

For what it's worth, I do have a Washburn WD7SCE and WD10S and both sound fantastic and are well put together.  Solid tops and neither are all that expensive.

Acoustic Guitar Players Post Comments & Questions / My WD10S Is Here
« on: August 12, 2010, 04:47:09 PM »
My WD10S from the Acoustic Jam Contest arrived yesterday!  Before I post my thoughts on the guitar, I need to give some kudos where they are due.

I was a bit vocal in a post regarding my disagreement with extending the Acoustic Jam Contest, and maybe not in the most polite manner.  Nick and the kind folks at Washburn saw fit to backtrack and award me the original winner (from the original deadline).  Right or wrong, they certainly didn't have to do that and not many companies would have.

I didn't really expect this to happen and would like to send a big thank you Nick and Washburn.  This, coupled with how well I was taken care of by WB on my previous warranty issue, put Washburn in an elite category of customer service as far as I'm concerned.

Now, the guitar...it's a really nice looking piece as you can see on the acoustics page on the main site.  Solid top, mahogany sides, back and neck.  Came out of the box in great shape as far as setup and tuning...needs some tweaks but not a big deal.

I love the satin finish neck, much more comfy than the gloss finish.  Most importantly, it sounds fantastic.  Bold and crisp, sounds more hearty than my WD7SCE.  I like it a lot!

I've never played a D10S so I can't really compare but there's a thread somewhere offering a comparison.

I'll take some pics of the WD10S if anybody wants to see it.  Any specific questions about it, just post them here and I check in form time to time and will answer if I can.

Thanks again WB, I love the guitar!

It seems to be one of the more beautiful guitars ... and the sound becomes better over time...  I dont really know why that is so if you can clue me in let me know...

I used to have a DK20T and although it is not one of their high end guitars, I thought the sound quality was excellent and it's a gorgeous guitar as far as looks.

Mine had a defect or I'd still be playing it and loving it (do as Rocket suggested and search and you can find my original posts from way back winter).  Otherwise, great guitar for the money.

Bottom line, you can get a good Washburn and not break the bank.  They do a good job and stand behind the product.

Thank you...that's very generous of Washburn.

Acoustic Guitar Players Post Comments & Questions / Local Shop
« on: August 03, 2010, 10:52:19 AM »
Went into my new favorite local music shop last week and their guitar tech tells me they may be adding Washburn's to their line of guitars.  He went to the NAMM show and liked what he saw and played in the WB exhibit.  So I was happy to hear that.

Side note...some of you may remember my problems with the DK20 way back in Dec/January?  Well if it hadn't been for that problem I never would have went in this shop and discovered how great it is.

This shop was my 3rd stop during that ordeal and I had never gone in before because I thought they were mostly marching band instruments.  Well not only do they have a wide and quality guitar section they have the best tech in the area.Mike W.

I have too many guitars and a very understanding wife.I guess she has a point when she says Do you really need another one?...but maybe, just maybe I can trick her if I get a banjo.
Take it easy Jerry

Get the banjo...now that I've been outed as a picker I'll need some help on here!

I take it you don't know how to play it yet?  If that's the case I'd go with a cheapie to see if you like it or not.  Banjo is very different from guitar and you can learn the basics fairly quickly but then getting to where you can play cleanly and moderately fast is a long road I'm finding.

I have been playing banjo for a little over 2 months and have a Harmony I found in a pawn shop.  It actually sounds ok but it's not in the best shape.  I love playing and am gonna upgrade as soon as I can afford it.

I'd also recommend going to banjohangout.org and joining the forum.
