Discuss Basses and Bass Playing / Some questions on custom work for a t24
« on: October 25, 2005, 06:50:55 AM »
My T24 had the string buzz out of the factory so I just adjusted the bridge screws. I've found leaving the tone all the way fat on both pickups with my Eden amp gives the best tone. With flatwounds I can get as close to an upright tone as any bass I've had.

As far as the neck is concerned, I've played mine one to two hours per day for two years without a problem. If your hands stick, try a drop or two of 3-in-1 oil on your hands, really, this will let you glide around on that Jerzy Drodz like neck. By the way this bass has 21mm at the first fret and 23mm at the 12th fret. The Jerzy Drodz are 19mm all the way, but since most of us won't be playing one of those this is good enough, right?

Discuss Basses and Bass Playing / Washburn T24 Pickup choices

You might have to have a custom job done. The factory pups are suited to the mahogany so you get a soft upright -like tone. I love mine the way it is because I play jazz. They're especially soft toned with flat wounds. You might try a brighter string like stainless to get a different sound.

I believe that's close. It was a prototype.

Discuss Basses and Bass Playing / Washburn bass...XB-100.

I'd sell it NOW. Get a Taurus T24 and still have some saved for an amp. You can get a Taurus new for $350 US if you look.

I use Rotosound flats. Sound great on a Taurus.

Discuss Basses and Bass Playing / Taurus T35????

I have an off the shelf T24 and it plays like butter. I use it for jazz and the sound is just right there. The wood grain on mine doesn't look anything like the ones I've seen in photots either from the company or people selling them. The wood on the wings of my bass is swirling in a thousand different directions. It's supposed to be mahogany, but it's like they ran out of that and made it out of cocobolo or something. I'll never get rid of it.

I thought so. Wow. It has been 30 years.

I play the bass, sorry I didn't put that straight in my original post. Yes, I have a brother named Steve! Amazing small world, but I'm still not sure who you are.

24
I'm not sure where I know you from or if you are thinking I'm someone else.

No actually I don't have a fretless anymore. I started with a fretless, went to upright and now play a fretted bass. Backward I know, but I reaaly love playing this fretted bass. I have been looking to start up a little jazz group to jam and get gigs. Do you play jazz at all?

I live in the eastern suburbs of Cleveland. I'd like to form a jazz group with piano, bass and drums. Or a quartet of you name it, sax, clarinet, whatever. I need flexible practice time due to my work schedule. I know we can get gigs. Even if jazz would be new to you it's worth a try.

Discuss Basses and Bass Playing / force 4 dimensions
« on: September 22, 2005, 06:25:19 AM »
I think if you get a Washburn case it'll fit and the dimensions won't matter. Pretty much if you get a bass case any bass will fit. My Taurus is a little loose in the metal bass case I bought so I got a couple of old black socks and stuffed some more in them and I place them around the body. It works perfectly; a tight fit.

Discuss Basses and Bass Playing / trus rod?
« on: September 01, 2005, 06:34:50 AM »
They still won't let me see your image. I keep getting server not found. I guess the only way to know if the truss rod is broken is if it turns very freely. Usually they are relatively tight and you can tell it's turning and getting tighter, etc. You might be able to get another neck on eBay. I've seen them for sale and they are not usually very much. Good luck. Let us know how it turns out.

Discuss Basses and Bass Playing / trus rod?

Yeah, I couldn't download your image. There is an Insert Image thingy just above the color choice on the reply page. It's a yellow block with a black arrow. You might want to try that.

Your truss rod could be broken or you might have to adjust your bridge a little, too. Did you turn it with the strings loosened? You should never turn it with the strings tight. Turn it a quarter turn then tighten the strings to see how the action is, then another quarter turn after loosening the strings, etc. Let us know how it turns out. Sorry it took so long to respond. I've been busy this year.
