Acoustic Guitar Players Post Comments & Questions / Humidifier

It looks like the living rooms where the guitar is wrapped and near the tree is running at approximately 45% humidity.  I think this is because we have a live tree and a giant bowl of water...does this make sense?  I know the humidity is not that high normally.  Upstairs it's still around the upper 20s.

One last comment.  I don't like spreading the strings apart like I have to do to put this humidifier in.  I think I'm going to break them or something.  I figure it will last a week without much trouble.  I guess I can always go ahead and install it in the case when I get the other one.  I'm returning this one Monday.

Thanks Dave.....argh, I'm just frazzled.  Ok, when I turn the humidifier on in the bedroom it tells me what the humidity is and often times it's in the upper 20s...sometimes low 30s....

So, I'll go ahead and put this thing in the guitar and all will be well right ;)  I did get a hygrometer with it as well...so I'll let you know what it says...maybe I should just replace the batteries in our weather station ya think....

Alright - I just picked up the Oasis humidifier I ordered and they sent me the wrong one.  I wanted the case humidifier - not the one that went in the strings.  But - I guess I'll have to keep this one, I mean it is still decent.  Anyone have any preference one way or another....I was so excited and now I'm just aggravated....ergh...

Ok - so I picked up the guitar (Alvarez MD95) today for my husband and it is just beautiful!!!  The owner played it for me some more at the store....man, how nice!  So I think the humidifier might be at my parent's house right now so should I wait to wrap this thing and put the humidifier in it?  Or do you think it will withstand a week at about 26% humidity?  I've got to do it this afternoon before he gets home.  I don't want to kill the guitar before he gets it but I know the humidifier won't last that long and will wear out of it's humidity in a few days since I'll be filling it the first time....

Thanks...  I'm weighing the pros and cons....how difficult should it be to figure out a humidifier...well - I think I make it difficult :)

We actually have a humidifier in one of the bedrooms but I'm not sure that would work where he is going to store it and I don't want to be necessarily bogged down with having to remember to fill it.

I know that when he is not playing it he will be keeping it in the case at least for the time being.  So I guess a case humidifier would be the way to go?  That's what I'm thinking...  If he cleans up his nice room that he keeps his nice things in then maybe he will get a guitar stand but right now - ain't happenin' :)

Acoustic Guitar Players Post Comments & Questions / How Do They Do It

My dad can do the exact same thing although he hasn't played in quite some time.  He could do it on the piano and on the guitar.  In fact when my brother and I were younger we used to play a tape of a certain song and then see if he could play it...he always could!  He cannot read a lick of music either.  Wish I had that same gift...or any gift for musical talent...

Anybody know anything about these?

(the humidity in most of our house is around 20 - 25%)

Don't worry....no lemon juice - lemon oil :) and I have lots of that because I use it on all of our furniture, etc. at home.  Anybody have any other recommendations?

I'm assuming the music store should sell some kind of humidifier...

Thanks guys!  Just as I was trying to finish up the message above my husband walks in and I'm like...close call.  Ok - a sound hole humidifier, I will check it out.  Yeah - our house is dry because of our heat pump in the winter time.  Can't wait to get to Vermont - we'll have nice radiant heat....so much better...

Ok - guys - I haven't picked up my husband's future new guitar but I will next weekend or the weekend after...  I'm so excited I can't stand it!!!  Now - I've heard about humidifiers and stuff for guitars - should I get one...  And if so, what should I get?  This is something else I know nothing about...  I just hope that my husband is as excited as I am about his guitar...  Oh, that's right - if he's not, I'll just keep it :)

Right now I'm getting some of my mom's old music books for piano that I had started learning on many, many years ago before they had to sell the piano...  I figure if I can just get back into that and learn then I'll be able to do better with the guitar....

That's great lunaray - the only problem is that I think he would figure it all out :) if I did that!

Wow - these are some pretty guitars and nice sounding too....  If I could play just one chord that would appease me for a little while :)

Haven't logged on here in quite some time and thought I would pop into say hi.  Things at work have been crazy so haven't gotten any Internet time, plus we had elections and I was an elections official (one of the coolest lowest paying jobs around :), and my older cat just had surgery where they removed a tumor and is miserable on her 6th day wearing one of those cone things... so....

I really want to get out to take a look at my husband's future guitar which still isn't fully paid for...but will be soon.  I am bursting at the seams to tell him but I've been very good and haven't breathed a word.  Anyways, Christmas is right around the corner right?  I've already started baking cookies and things for him so that keeps his mouth full and he can't ask questions :)

Hope all is well with everyone.  Just didn't want you all to think I took off and that was it...  I'm still here!

I just printed off a bunch of 'stuff' on learning how to read music, etc.  I'm destined for piano and guitar....at least that's what I hope!  I've already got a keyboard I've had for many, many years...so that's no biggie...it's the guitar that I need.  I guess I better check and see if the keyboard works though too.  I can't even pull that out right now because I know my husband will start talking guitars and I know I'm bad at surprises.... I wish it was Xmas so I could give it to him!!!

Oh yeah cllvt - thanks for throwing a little Vermont my way.  I forgot where you are living up there again - can you refresh me on that one and also the name of a good guitar store around your way.  Thanks.
