You guys are great!  I would buy myself the guitar for Xmas...and just tell my husband...  But - he would figure me out at this point.  Even if I waited a week or two he would catch onto the fact that I have been researching guitars etc, I just know he would.

millenium - thanks.  I like the Washburn but I know after all the talking that he would love the Alvarez.  I know he would've loved the Washburn too because it would have been from me but...get the man what he wants!  No more talk of guitars from me anytime soon...it's going to be soooo hard...I'm busting at the seams!

Ok - at least this system is back up and running although I only have about 3 minutes so I'll be quick.

I did see both guitars and heard both....I loved the Washburn!!!  I also thought that Alvarez was VERY impressive...  So I mulled and mulled it over and went with the Alvarez MD95.  Fortunately I did!  My husband picked up a guitar at Costco of all places and started strumming.  He says to me that if I really want to get in to guitar then he'll find me a nice one...and then goes into talking about the Alvarez and how he'd love to have another one of those, blah, blah, blah...  Thank the lord...  But - I need to stop talking to him about guitars otherwise I'll wind up with an Alvarez ;)  So...I'm going to keep quiet until Xmas and then I'll probably wind up asking for the Washburn D10!!!!

The store I bought it from is called Classic Axe Guitars.  A fantastic place!!!  I had emailed the owner back and forth a few times and he answered every question.  Now, I don't actually have the guitar yet but I put a deposit down on it so they packed it away for me.  RGG MUSIC - you are right about supply from Alvarez.  This guy does an amazing business with them and he said that a lot of times he CANNOT get a particular guitar a customer requests simply because they don't have it.  The guy said that any adjustments that need to be made would be no problem...that they do it right there in the store.  He has wall to wall guitars in all price ranges going to $$$$.  I could've spent hours in his place!  Funny thing is is that he used to have his shop 1 mile from where I live up until a little over a year ago.

So that was it guys.  I love the Washburn but I can absolutely tell my husband's heart is with the Alvarez.  I was jumping for joy when he started talking about it...and thinking that I've opened my mouth just a bit much....

I gotta get going but there you have it!  I wish I could sit and drool over it...I can't believe I bought a guitar...ok, half bought it so far!!!

Hi all...I didn't want you to think I've disappeared.  I really can't email from home since hubby is around ;) and here at work the workstations are down and I'm just on this particular computer real quick...been down since Thursday afternoon.  But - what I wanted to tell you was that I made my decision!  ...I'm not going to tell you anything else til I get more time and can send a proper reply...hopefully that will be tomorrow!

Thanks guys!  Haven't been on here in a little bit because the computers are pretty much down here at work so I can't browse back and forth like I could recently.  They should be back up and running soon....only been three days of no work now ;)

Ok - really messed up that reply with trying to quote - here is what I was thinking...get him the guitar...and then maybe I can start taking lessons. I would probably go with the D10 for me or something a little less $$.... Hey - here is a thought! My Bday falls a few days after Christmas - by that time he will have his guitar...then I can approach him with that idean (maybe score the guitar for my bday???...or paid lessons???... But wait, I still have to learn how to read music - any thoughts on how I can begin?

But do I want to learn the guitar or piano....I want to learn both!!! Anybody else know both???

So true...  I am disgusted with the way people treat other living things and tear down trees because they feel like it.  I actually am still up in the air about kids... a part of me says that one would be good so that I can teach him/her right and have them help save the world...  Another part of me says - don't, we're already overpopulated as it is...

Plus - I have 5 rescue kitties that all get along unbelievably well!

That's what I was thinking! Seriously though, give that idea some thought.  Sounds like you are already hooked, and what could be better for a relationship than to share music/guitar! [:D]

C'mon ... you know you want to ...

Thanks Dave...  The bug, how can you tell I have the bug?  Haha - I just noticed that I made Junior Member without knowing anything about a guitar!!!  Yay!!!  I'm 33 years old and have just gotten excited about rising above new status on a forum about guitars...sheesh...

If my husband was searching this forum he would definitely be cluing me on in which of the two guitars he would like :)  Of course he would recognize my user name and I would recognize his...  If you ever see a whiteraven7 somewhere - that's my man!

These are going to be collector's items if there are so few.

Thanks guys for being all so thoughtful.  I'm still unsure as to what I'm going to do...  Hopefully I'll get a chance to see both this week.  I'm so excited about the guitar I can't believe it isn't Halloween yet!  How on earth am I going to keep it a secret for soooo long...

I can't believe that I'm torn between two guitars...who would've thunk it.  I've always been more than faithful to my husband but you know...this guitar thing is sure getting in the way ;)  You know that I actually dreamnt of guitars last night?  Couldn't even believe it.  Of course the Alvarez and Washburn were in the dream...and many other ones too.  I guess that might be because I went to bed thinking of guitars.  Not to mention listening to the radio this morning with Simon and Garfunkel playing a tune...and me imagining them strumming the guitar.

Oh what has happened?  At any rate - thanks again guys.  I'll keep posting and probably will have more questions to bore you with :)  And skip77 - thanks for the info on the neck...nut...whatever you call it.  I think I need to get a diagram of a guitar and learn the specifics on what is what and proper terminology :)

Ok - so it looks like I'll be going out on Thursday evening to take a look at the Alvarez MD95.  Please don't kill me if I sink and wind up buying it....  I'm also going to try and take a look at a Washburn at another store in a different area tomorrow.  I'm going to try and get a little more info out of my husband to see if he would prefer Alvarez to Washburn or vice versa...somehow...  Of course he would say he would like anything coming from me but this is supposed to be a shhh...secret.  I'll feel bad if I don't get the Washburn since so many of you have been so helpful on this forum.  Will you guys still let me chat if I go for the other?  I'll keep you abreast of my new guitar learning experience ;) and piano...  I'd like to learn piano as well.  Any ideas or books out there on how to start reading music?
