magoo...

I have been told that the best way is to check for the wood texture visible through the sound hole(around it). If it has a layered texture, it is not solid.

But I'd be happy to hear from others on the forum who are alot smarter than me.

I'm with Bookman on this one. What you want to do is look at the side of the wood visible through the sound hole. Just like looking at a piece of plywood on the side, you should be able to tell if it's layered or solid.

Its a solid spruce top and mahogany back/sides and Rocket is correct except your friends has the electronic TP4T system in his.Ship...all the G-400 and G-500 Series were built with solid tops, I myself really like the Cedar top EGS430SC and the model should read as EG-440C

Millenium Brigade
Rover Brigade
Another WAGJammer
Timbercraft Brigade J52SW

D-68SW
DM2000S Millenium limited edition
and other great sounding and playing guitars

Sorry that was a typo, Rocket is right it is a EG 440c
Also its the one that Rocket has provided a link to.

Ship, Its Quilt maple top and sides, so I do not think its solid spruce top..It do have the pt4t system..not a bad little guitar.

so, Is the quilt maple a solid top ...Its a pretty cheap guitar so I didn't think it was all solid wood.

Thanks guys for the help.

I can't find anything that says "solid"... just "quilt maple" which could also describe a quilted maple veneer.

When I bought my Greg Bennet, I did my homework, and found out it was solid, i double checked when I got there using Bookman's idea. Got a solid top, maghogany backed guit, with Grovers, for a hundred bucks even! Poor guy... LOL

I've found that, if a guitar has a solid top, manufacturers are proud to relate that info in big letters. When questionable language is used, it's usually for a reason. Washburn is also guilty of that and they should just stop it. There's no shame in producing a lam... everything has a valid use. Lams are perfect for weather & travel across temp extremes.
